Afghani Tourmaline Georgian Pinchbeck Paste Multi Strand Necklace - Clarissa Necklace

  • $4,960.00

A waterfall of rainbow-hued Afghani Tourmaline smooth rondelles has been hand-linked to create this jaw-dropping multi-strand necklace. These glossy and luxurious tourmaline beads (462 cts.), with their bright pastel colors, are highly coveted amongst collectors due to their limited availability from remote and dangerous mining regions. This pastel profusion has been paired with a Georgian Pinchbeck pink paste clasp which has been artfully reinvented as the focal point of this necklace. Although this gorgeous antiquity dates back to the 18th century and was most likely used as a costume bracelet clasp during it’s day - the intricacy of the beautiful design and workmanship remains clearly evident. Pinchbeck was a proprietary metal invented by Christopher Pinchbeck in the 18th century to resemble gold - which was generally only available to the very wealthy. Designs were also frequently worn by nobility when traveling due to the dangerous thieves and highway robbers. The clasp is still in excellent condition and closes securely. This necklace was designed to be worn with the stunning clasp worn nestled just below the collar bone. Slight alterations can be made to fit, if necessary. 18/20 inches long X 2.29 inches wide.
