Cherub Chatelaine Scent Bottle Pink Baroque Pearls Necklace - Claudette Necklace
The history of perfume during the Regency Era is a fascinating subject and this stunning necklace pays homage to the creativity, workmanship and symbolic statement of that time. Creamy smooth delicate blush pink, white and light mauve baroque pearls have been hand linked to create a dramatic yet lady-like necklace. The unique pendant is a peridot green glass chatelaine scent bottle (circa 1900), hand painted with a whimsical winged cherub encircled with a gold embossed cartouche frame. A pink petal pearl, kite-shaped peridot briolette, London blue topaz faceted briolette and gold vermeil Fleur de Lis and Napoleonic bee charms - dangle sweetly from the finger ring and add a nod to the French provenance of this adorable perfume bottle. The back of this well preserved scent bottle shows the same gold embossed cartouche as the front. A makers mark, which appears to be a signed and numbered piece, is evident at the bottom of the glass bottle. The little glass stopper is intact, the embossed hinged lid closes securely and the original chain and finger ring are all in very good condition - a well loved and cherished antique. This one of a kind pendant can easily be slipped off the necklace and the luxurious hand linked pearl chain can be worn separately. The fact that this romantic and fragile étuis has survived the years in such good condition is truly remarkable. Below is an excerpt from Candice Hearn’s blog - Regency World: The 18th century was a golden age for perfumes and perfume containers. Previous centuries had favored strong fragrances to mask the disagreeable odors of everyday life, and perfumes were usually made and dispensed by apothecaries. Though still a luxury item, the rage for perfume became almost frantic, and it was often difficult for the producers to meet the demands, even with significantly expanded crops of perfume-making plants. Many new techniques and ingredients were developed during this period to satisfy the insatiable demand for perfume. The rise of fashionable fragrance brought about new and equally fashionable ways to store it, display it, wear it, and use it. The finest porcelain factories produced bottles and flasks in every imaginable shape. Scent containers were also produced in glass, rock crystal, silver, gold, enamel, amber, ivory, alabaster, and many other materials. 25 inches long / 4.6875 inch pendant drop from ring X 1.29 inches wide.
