Victorian Enamel Vinaigrette Locket Necklace Blue Topaz & Prehnite - Brezza Floreale II

  • $0.00

A charming pastoral Samuel Goldfarb antique Viennese enamel vinaigrette scent locket (circa 1900), is suspended from a linked chain of bezel set heart shaped and faceted blue topaz and intercepted with kiwi green pearls flanking bezel set prehnite slices stationed along the chain. Although we think of the Victorian period as gracious and elegant - this little scent locket, filled with perfumed wool cotton, would have most likely been used of ward off the foul odors of the streets. The front of the locket depicts a woman seated on a bench with a cherub whispering in her ear - while the backside illustrates a pastoral scene of a courting couple. Opening the enamel lid reveals a beautifully fretted grill, which when removed, uncovers the fanciful grille button with a bar that held the scented wool cotton. This particular vinaigrette appears as though it was never used with the fragranced cotton, as there seems to be no discoloration or sticky reside of the interior metal. The makers mark “SG” and “A” on the interior lid and underneath the grille, indicates the provenance of Samuel Goldfarb, who is renown for his Viennese enamel scent lockets. A handful of imperceptible little flea bites in the enamel are the only indication that this locket may have ever been gently worn. This charming work of art is a unique glimpse into the daily life of a bygone era. 32.25 inches long / 3 inch drop - locket .86 inches diameter.
